Evan, Nancy, Gary, Pat

instructors have a passion for their sport of rollerskating. They want to share that passion with others, and show how to have fun rollerskating! Currently, there are five instructors: Pat Savage (The Master), Nancy Whitby, Evan Whitby, Gary Henle, and Linda Zaleski (not pictured here).

Pat is the Master Instructor. His style of both skating and teaching is unique. He advocates smooth, grace, and elegance in skating. His role model is Fred Astaire, with Gene Kelly running a very close second. In his teaching, he advocates focusing your attention on interpreting the music with style, rather than on attaining perfect technique. His bottom line is, are you having fun? That is what skating is all about. He teaches simple tips and techniques that can be mastered in a short time, yet give you the skills to freely interpret the music yourself. Pat has skated for about 40 years, and has competed for about 35 years. He retired from competitive skating in 2005 after competing at the National Rollerskating Championships in Pensacola, Florida. Now he is having fun!

Nancy is Pat's skating partner, and apprentice. She skated for a few years, way back in the '70s (yes, the disco era!) and early 80s, and then took a long, long break of over 20 years. She started back again about two years ago. She happily has never skated competively. Simply call her a free spirit on skates. Music is in her soul. When she turns on her iPod, she is in a world of her own, but a world she passionately wants to share with others. Yes, she is having fun, fun, fun. (Evan is her husband of almost 26 years!!)

Evan is a converted hockey player. He now enjoys learning the artistic side of rollerskating. His desire is to help others learn the joy of rollerskating that he has found through learning from the Master (Pat). He has a super smooth jammin' style! Ask him about the Coffin.

Gary is a master of many talents. His charisma with kids is unparalled. He can get the shyest kid to smile, and skate. Kids flock to him, a Pied Piper on Wheels. Another talent is his practical knowledge of skates. He is also a gentle practical joker. Have you gotta a dollar to give him? He is famous for skating on top of a houseboat. (Yes, we have video to prove it!) But, do NOT try to copy this antic of his!!
Linda, the latest addition to our instruction team, is everybody's dream mother. She always has a kind word for everyone, and has a sweet smile and gentle demeanor to calm and relax even the most frazzled skater or non-skater. Linda is the lady who keeps all of us centered. In her "real" life, she is a librarian of the first order (actually, a systems analyst). She is also a singer, mother of a teenage softball star, and wife of an agile fencer. Her skating style is classic dance, but she loves the backwards strut.
